Trains have been in my life since I was very young. Like most train guys, I can remember my first train set given to me by my parents one Christmas many many years ago. Trains are a great family hobby. The are also a great educational hobby. Construction methods, electrical circuits, physics, math, are all learned while having fun building layouts and running trains.
The photo to the left is of a portion of my living room at Christmas. I set up two large train sets at Christmas. One in the living room and one in the basement. The trains pictured left are "G" gauge. Although there are several manufacturers of "G" gauge trains, I collect LGB brand. Until recently, made by Lehmann in Germany. I began my LGB collection in 1979. These trains are very large and are suitable for outdoor use. All the buildings in this photo are scratch built. I built them from recycled wood wall paneling.
